Long before ET (the movie) there was ETI (the band). I’m not sure if we wanted to be rock, prog rock or new wave. Some of my earliest recording attempts on 4 track at the Pecan Springs house (late 1980 I believe).
Janice Hargis – Vocal and Keys
Brian Harmer – Guitar
Tim Rogers – Bass
Jeff Seibert – Drums
John Viehweg – Guitar and Vocals
I played in Lance’s band in the Backroom heyday of the late 80s. A few years later he had a song he wanted to demo so I engineered a quick recording at David Barrow’s house ( I believe this was ’95).
I got Lance to run through one of the old songs as well, this was one of my early favorites of his: I’d Be Crying
Lance Keltner: Guitar, Lead Vocals
John Viehweg: Guitar, backing Vocals
Tommy Taylor: Drums
Kira Small added a backing vocal on “River”
I honestly can’t remember who played bass…
One more from the ’80s, a quick demo recorded at Studio D:ASHES
Lance Keltner: Guitar, Lead Vocals
John Viehweg: Guitar, backing Vocals
Alex Espinosa: Bass
Jeff Howard: Drums
One even older, a rough cassette transfer from the early ’80s:
Blind Date
I believe this is from around ’89 or so; recorded at Wink Tyler’s Austin Recording. This is a 2nd generation safety copy, wish I had something better. She’s Walking
J.B. Slimp – Guitar
Mark Ellis – Guitar
Buster Grant – Lead Vocals
Darren Keeling – Bass
Chris Didear – Drums
Catch 22
With a couple of member changes the band became Catch 22. This is from around ’92 or so; recorded at Jay Hudson’s Hit Shack and dubbed/mixed at Wink Tyler’s Austin Recording.
Recorded at Peter Butcher’s “Europa Sound Centre” around 1985 this ranks among my favorite projects that I recorded. Thanks to Chris Gates (producer) for helping keep it raw. Time’s Up Somewhere Else
Steve Collier – guitar, lead vocals Don Lamb – guitar
Jimmy Doluisio – bass
Glen Benavides – drums
The Yes Men is our version of poker night, we get together on Tuesday nights to have a few laughs (and a few beverages) and occasionally play some vintage prog rock from Yes.
Brian Harmer: Guitar
Chris Vreeland: Bass
John Viehweg: Vocals
Mickey McGee: Drums
Patrick McFarland: Keyboards
Here are some photos of The Yes Men in action at our state of the art high tech recording facility (Brian’s garage). Click on any photo to see the full size image:

This was one of the last projects I recorded on the SSL at Austin Recording. It was released on CD but somehow things got lost in translation from the original mix to the CD and it sounded a bit thin and harsh. Here I have gone back to the original mixes of some of my favorite tunes from the project:
Shawn Maddox: Guitars, backing vocals
Mike Howard: Bass, backing vocals, lead tripe
Andy Brownlee: pretty much everything else
